WFMW: Easy Clean Bathrooms

Cleaning my house is one of the HARDEST things for me to make happen. Because I'm with my children all the time and because two of them are under age 5, I have to be creative to fit cleaning in.

I'm pretty good about keeping common areas (Living Room/Game Room) straightened and cleaned. Also, my kitchen is a must. I spend too much time in there for it to be out of control.

I struggle most with my room and my bathroom. Why? Well, let's see. When I get up in the morning, I shower, get dressed, and then leave....never to return again (or at least it seems that way). My dh rises after me, so I don't have the luxury of getting out of my bed and then turning around to make it.

My biggest struggle though is my bathroom. I LOVE clean bathrooms, I just seems like I haven't ever been able to keep my clean consistently....Until recently!...

First of all, I've adopted the Flylady concept of wiping down my sink and my mirror before I leave the bathroom in the morning. It takes all of 30 - 60 seconds. I just finish my morning routine, spray some Windex on the mirror and then wipe it down (old newspapers work wonderfully). Then, I take a rag wipe down the counter top, using cleaner when it needs it.

But what about the rest of the bathroom you say? Well, here's where it gets good. When I put my children in the bathtub, what I've usually done is sit there and watch them play. Now...I get busy! Even if all I can get to is one item in my bathroom, I have 5 minutes (or maybe 10 if I need it) to completely get some area of the bathroom clean. Five minutes is all I need to clean the toilet, mop the floor, scrub the bottom of the shower, clean the shower glass, or vaccuum (yes part of my bathroom is carpeted :(

One other things that I've recently discovered. There are times when I have to do some cleaning with my boys in tow. I let them "clean" with me. By giving them something to do, I create more time to do what I need to do. The other day, I put shaving scream on my shower doors. They enjoyed playing with it and spreading it around and I enjoyed about 20 minutes of cleaning time! 15 minutes they played in the shaving cream and then 5 minutes they cleaned up their mess (with me helping of course)!

Oh my Goodness, your boys must have had a blast! I used to clean my bathroom while my son was taking a bath--now I'm waiting for the baby to get a little bigger before I can get back to that; she's constantly trying to escape the tub! Cleaning the bathroom while he was in there also inspired me to find less-caustic cleansers.

I just discovered the Flylady myself! I am in my first week and am working on getting my routine down. I remember that I used to play with shaving cream when I was a kid and then my nephews and nieces after me. We always played on the kitchen table. My husband gets up after me also, but we try to get back to make the bed together before we leave for the day. This is also a new routine, but it seems to be working well. There is just something about having your bed made that makes you feel like at least some part of your house is clean! Thanks for sharing!

To mop my bathroom floor, I use the wet towel that is left after my children have all bathed. I plop it on the floor, and swish it around with my foot. It's SO easy and fast. This way, my bathroom floor gets washed almost daily.

sportsmama,

I usually use either my homemade multipurpose cleaner (you can look up the post on my site) or I dissolve some dishwashing detergent in water and just use elbox grease. When finished I give it shine with Windex (club soda works great too)!

Awesome ideas! I will totally use those :). And, my entire bathroom (minus where the toilet is) is carpeted....who ever thought that was a good idea? GROSS!! I totally feel you though!

What funny timing. I just cleaned my bathroom tonight while the girls were bathing. I do this too!
