WFMW: Freecycle!

If you've never heard of Freecycle you need to know! I have been able to declutter and get rid of things that I no one would want. I've also been able to benefit from something another person had they were dying to get rid of.

You go the Freecycle website to find a local group. You join the email list and just watch for things that might interest you. Items that are offered are given away on a first request basis so the early bird gets the worm. Whenever, you have anything that you want to get rid of, you just author a post and it is usually gone in no time. You can even et on the list to ASK for something that someone might want to give away. That is what I did with the tomato cages for my veggie garden. I just asked and someone had them and didn't need them.

I've given away half-working printers, an old diaper pail, cookbooks, old office supplies, and much more.

I've gotten free scrapbook materials, mason jars, video games for my kids, old magazines for art projects, DIRT, extra plants, and an aquarium for fish for my kiddos. It's the coolest thing.

As the Matthew 7:7-8 says...Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Great tip! I haven't actually gotten anything on Freecycle (and the couple of times I wanted something, nobody offered it up), but I have gotten rid of a whole lot of things through it -- which was my whole reason for joining. Love it!

I've used freecycle too! And I have friends who have remodeled their entire kitchen for free. It looks good, too!

Freecycle is great. I've given away several things there, and gotten a winter coat for my daughter, computer games, kid books, a standing basketball hoop, and most recently a swing set. (Boy, have my 6 kiddos needed that!)

Great WFMW post. :)

I love Freecycle! I actually host my local freecycle I love it so much. LOL It's definitely a great resource that more people should know about. Thanks for getting it out there. :)

Hello Chrystal,
I absolutely love your blog and have enjoyed reading about your journey. I wanted to comment on this blog because I also have an alternative.

I have been blessed to have been introduced to Goodwill from the inside. This is a great nonprofit organization that strive to put people to work who are disadvantaged and disabled.

I hope that people would consider donating those items to Goodwill Industries of Dallas - there are 9 stores in the area as well as ADC's - Attended Donation Centers (trailers in certain parking lots) where donations can be given.

Yes, we sell the items at our stores, but we do so to allow us to hire those people that would not be able to get jobs other places. We also use the funds to assist us in vocational area - GED training, computer skills, job skills, etc.

By having the stores we are able to get the financing necessary to do our mission at Goodwill. We dont get many financial donations - some - but our main donation is people's generosity for those things that you no longer want.

Just another option to help those in need. Love ya to pieces!

Your idea is great!! I found a PIANO on Freecycle this past week. After a little Old English furniture oil and a tuning my daughter will now be able to start piano lessons this fall. Freecycle is great way to bless others with things we don't use.
